We all find ourselves in situations where we worry, where we feel out of control and where it appears others have more. The reality is that for any situation we find ourselves in, we are only in control of 15% of what happens. We have no control over other people and their reactions or responses. For the most part, we have little control over the environment we find ourselves in. What we can control is ourselves, our responses, when we engage, when we leave and so on.

For autistic individuals, particularly when experiencing moments of heightened anxiety, it can be more difficult to manage these worries or to identify what is in their control. The in my control out of my control visual board is a good way to visually represent this concept. It allows the person to identify and discard what is out of their control. More importantly, it helps to identify what is in the person’s control and focus on those.  Please click the link below to download your free ‘In my Control, Out of my Control’ visual.
